June 17/24 *UPDATE* on my book!
The Kindle version of my book is no longer available. The printed version continues to be available.
Nov. 2/23 *UPDATE* on my book!
As of Oct. 31/23, my book became available on Amazon in paperback. The ad for the paperback edition on Amazon specifies "May 11 2023". That's not true. I'll try to get them to change that. In order to see the ad in Amazon, type "John Reasbeck" in the search window, and ads for both the Kindle and paperback editions of my book will appear.
In addition to Amazon, the paperback edition is also available at The Wild Bird Store in Calgary (403-680-2632).

I've written a children's book about Elsa, the Frank Lake overwintering pelican. The cover of my book is above. Some of the members of the Alberta Birds Facebook group urged me to create such a book--since I've posted so much about Elsa.
On May 11, 2023, Amazon made my book available in Kindle ebook format. I was required to choose a book price that's from 2.99 to 9.99. I picked 4.99. However, I also enrolled the book in Kindle Select. So, if you're a member of Kindle Unlimited, my book is free.
In order to see the store entry for the book, go to amazon.ca. Then click on "Kindle Books" at the top of the screen or do a search for "Kindle Books" (depending on the device you're using). Then search for "John Reasbeck", and my book will appear. Please have a look at the book description and sample. If you decide to obtain a copy, thank you very much! I hope that you enjoy my book!
The above photo shows Elsa, the overwintering pelican. I took the photo on Jan. 29/22, when I was interviewed at Frank Lake by Helen Pike of CBC. I visited Elsa every few days from Nov. 20/21 to Apr. 23/22. I lost track of her, but I continued going to Frank Lake hoping to find her again someday--among the 200 or so pelicans that regularly frequent Frank Lake to take advantage of the fishing.
What has happened to Elsa? No one knows. Also, no one knows how she was injured and had to overwinter at Frank Lake for two years in a row. I'm imagining that Elsa was able to recover from her injury well enough so that she could fly with some of the other pelicans to one of their nesting colonies. Maybe she'll return to Frank Lake again sometime. I always watch for her every time I go to Frank Lake. Although I'd like to see her again, my greatest hope is that she will be able to migrate with the other pelicans in the fall.
I've placed a PDF-formatted file here, containing all of the posts I made in Facebook following my visits to see Elsa.
I used to post on the TrekLens and TrekNature sites from 2008 to 2011. As with Facebook, I posted text and photos. In TrekLens, the emphasis was on photo quality and camera settings. Subjects could be anything. Much was often written about the photo subjects. In TrekNature, the concentration of submissions was on subjects in nature. Presenters were supposed to provide useful information about their photo subjects. In both sites, good quality photos were expected, and the presenters were encouraged to write something interesting about the subject matter.
In 2014-2015, I compiled all of the postings that I had made to TrekLens and TrekNature. I made a print-quality PDF and published a book. But it was so expensive to create the book that I only had two copies printed. I thought that visitors to my site might like to see a viewing-quality PDF of the book I had printed.
I have one more item. At the bottom of each page of my PDF I have a copyright notice. However, every visitor to my site may download my PDF, provided that it's for their own non-commercial use.
