One of the things I do
In addition to helping to create the Elsa 2023 calendar, I made two additional calendars for 2023: Alberta Birds and Backyard Birds. For next year I've created another Alberta Birds calendar. I've attached a slideshow video of the birds. The Wild Bird Store in Calgary will have my calendar starting on Oct. 17.
About the elsa calendar
The Elsa 2023 Calendar was created in order to honour a pelican that had to overwinter at Frank Lake, Alberta, instead of migrating before winter to southern climes with the other pelicans. We called her Elsa. After the other pelicans had migrated, Elsa remained at Frank Lake in the winters of 2020-21 and 2021-22. And this winter, in 2022-23, Elsa has decided to spend her third winter at Frank Lake. Her flying ability has definitely improved, from winter to winter, but she still doesn't have the confidence to fly for a long distance--and she knows that she has been able to survive the winters at Frank Lake.
Marlene Walsh, Renee Carrier, and I made a calendar using the images in the above slideshow. Our calendar sold in three bird-oriented stores in Alberta: Calgary, Edmonton, and Spruce Grove. We have donated all of the net proceeds to date to Ducks Unlimited Canada, the organization that manages the Frank Lake Conservation Area. We are deeply indebted to the following stores for their willingness to sell our Elsa calendars for us:
